Background of the Study
Globalization has significantly influenced foreign policy decision-making, particularly within emerging economies. In Abuja, the dynamics of globalization are evident in the shifts toward more outward-looking, economically driven foreign policies. These changes reflect the need to adapt to a globalized market, foster international alliances, and promote national development. Emerging economies have increasingly prioritized economic diplomacy, trade partnerships, and strategic collaborations to leverage global opportunities (Chukwu, 2023). The rapid integration into the global economy has necessitated a reevaluation of traditional foreign policy approaches, where issues of sovereignty and national interest are balanced with global responsibilities. In Abuja, this evolution is further complicated by domestic political considerations and the quest for regional influence. The study examines how globalization has reshaped foreign policy agendas, influencing areas such as security cooperation, economic reform, and cultural diplomacy. Moreover, the interplay between global trends and local realities provides insights into how emerging economies navigate complex international environments. The impact of technological advancements, information flows, and multinational pressures has catalyzed significant policy reforms, which are critical for maintaining competitive advantage and ensuring sustainable growth (Okoro, 2024). This research will contribute to understanding the mechanisms through which globalization influences policy formulation in emerging economic centers, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges that arise in this transformative period (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the problem
Emerging economies in Abuja face considerable challenges in aligning their foreign policies with the demands of globalization. There is a discernible gap between traditional policy frameworks and the dynamic, interconnected global system. Policy shifts are often reactive rather than strategically proactive, leading to inconsistent approaches that may undermine national interests. The lack of a cohesive strategy results in missed opportunities for economic growth and regional influence. Furthermore, external pressures and internal political instabilities exacerbate these challenges, complicating efforts to adopt a forward-looking foreign policy stance. This study seeks to clarify these issues and propose a more integrated approach to foreign policy that better leverages globalization for national benefit (Chukwu, 2023; Okoro, 2024).

Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it provides a critical analysis of how globalization affects foreign policy in emerging economies. Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to the evaluation of foreign policy shifts in response to globalization in Abuja. It does not extend to historical policy analyses or similar shifts in other regions.
